Wrongful death suit filed against The Villages at Greystone

Medical malpractice 04

BECKLEY – The executors of an estate have filed a wrongful death suit against the operators of a Beaver assisted living facility.

Sheila Trent Shumate, Darrell Trent and Gregory Trent, executors of the estate of Ruth Ellen Trent, filed a complaint on July 5 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Beckley Health Partners LTD, doing business as The Villages at Greystone; Chancellor Senior Management LTD; and Megan Ward Wilson alleging breaches of the applicable standard of care and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that their decedent Ruth Ellen Trent sustained injuries while she was a resident at defendants' The Villages at Greystone from May 27, 2016, to June 13, 2016. During said period, Ruth Ellen Trent's physical condition allegedly deteriorated, which proximately led to her death on Nov. 26, 2016.

The plaintiffs holds Beckley Health Partners LTD, doing business as The Villages at Greystone, Chancellor Senior Management LTD and Wilson responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide their decedent with needed care and services to prevent falling.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek punitive damages and all other relief that the court sees fit to award. They are represented by Damon Ellis and Jonathan R. Mani of Mani, Ellis & Layne PLLC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andrew Dimlich.
