Regional Jail Authority named in wrongful death suit

Medical malpractice 06

CHARLESTON – The mother of a deceased Kanawha County man alleges that Western Regional Jail staff failed to timely provide medical care to him.

Sheila G. Trader, administrator of the estate of Michael Trader, filed a complaint Oct. 11 in Kanawha Circuit Court against The West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority and Prime Care Medical of West Virginia alleging wrongful death.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 12, 2015, plaintiff's decedent Seth Michael Trader was an inmate at defendant Western Regional Jail when he suffered a medical emergency and was having trouble breathing. The suit states he later was pronounced dead at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

The plaintiff holds The West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority and Prime Care Medical of West Virginia responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to summon medical care after receiving actual notice of Trader's medical distress after being notified by another inmate.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages for the death of Seth Michael Trader. She is represented by Shannon M. Bland of Bland & Bland Attorneys at Law LC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Louis J. Bloom.
