BECKLEY – A mother and minor student at a Raleigh County school allege the school district failed to investigate a teacher's alleged assault on the student.

Shondda Allen, parent and next friend and on behalf of Quadair Allen, a minor filed a complaint Oct. 20 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Raleigh County Board of Education alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 17, Crescent Elementary School teacher Julie Bolen physically assaulted Quadair Allen. The suit states Shondda Allen made a complaint to the Beckley Police Department and Bolen is being criminally prosecuted.

The plaintiffs also allege principal Teresa Lewis later verbally assaulted Quadair Allen in retaliation for the criminal charges filed against Bolen.

The plaintiff holds Raleigh County Board of Education responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to investigate Bolen.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order requiring defendant to implement mandatory and effective training programs on issues related to bullying, award for all damages, plus interest and any further relief that are lawful and equitable. They are represented by Scott H. Kaminski of Kaminski Law PLLC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge John A. Hutchison.
