CHARLESTON – A Charleston woman alleges she was injured while she was a patient at St. Francis Hospital.
Mitzie L. Simms filed a complaint Jan. 3 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Charleston Hospital Inc., doing business as St. Francis Hospital, alleging deviation from the standard of care
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 1, 2015, she was admitted at defendant's St. Francis Hospital for surgery. As a result of defendant's employees' alleged actions, she sustained neuropraxia and other complications that caused her to suffer great pain and physical impairment.
The plaintiff holds Charleston Hospital Inc. responsible because the defendant's employees allegedly inappropriately placed IV access in her right saphenous vein, compressed nerves and suppressed blood flow to her foot.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, plus interest, costs, attorney's fees and all further relief as the court deems proper. She is represented by William M. Tiano of Tiano O'Dell PLLC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Louis H. Bloom.
