Charleston couple alleges hospital operator's negligence caused husband injuries

CHARLESTON — A Charleston couple is suing a local medical center, alleging negligence caused harm to the husband.

Eugene Workman and Lana Workman filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against Charleston Area Medical Center Inc,. alleging the defendant breached the applicable standards of care in diagnosing, treating and caring for Eugene Workman.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 21, 2016, Eugene Workman was admitted for a TURP hydrocelectomy at the defendant's CAMC Memorial Hospital. Since then, the suit says, he has been unable to use his left hand and has continued to suffer significant problem with his left forearm, including excruciating pain, limitation of motion and sensory nerve block.

 Lana Workman. who is significantly handicapped, the lawsuit alleges, has suffered loss of service, society and consortium of her husband. 

The plaintiffs allege Charleston Area Medical Center negligently inserted the peripheral IV to Eugene Workman's left forearm and improperly administered various medication through his left arm's IV site.

The Workmans seek trial by jury, compensatory and economic damages, with interest, court costs, fees and expenses and all other just relief. They are represented by attorney George B. Chiartas of Freeman & Chiartas PLLC in Charleston.
