CHARLESTON – State Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Trump feels so strongly about the creation of an intermediate appellate court that he took time to go to a House of Delegates public hearing to share his thoughts.
WINFIELD – Calling a deposition by the Putnam County superintendent of schools “largely self-serving,” an attorney says additional discovery is needed in a case about whether the county school board violated open meeting laws.
CHARLESTON – A bill that would provide pay raises of roughly 20 percent for judges in West Virginia has passed the state Senate. The Senate voted 29-3 in favor of Senate Bill 597 on Feb. 17. It now heads to the House of Delegates.
CHARLESTON – A circuit judge has chastised some plaintiff’s law firms for not settling more lung cancer cases as well as the number of defendants in those asbestos cases. He lists at least 14 cases with more than 150 defendants each.
CHARLESTON – The state Senate has passed a bill that would create an Intermediate Court of Appeals. The Senate voted 18-14-2 on Feb. 10 for Senate Bill 275. It now will go the House of Delegates for consideration.
