Woman sues Sodexho over injury at University of Charleston

CHARLESTON -- A woman is suing Sodexho Services and other Sodexho companies after she slipped and fell.

Sodexho Services Inc.; Sodexo Inc.; Sodexo Operations LLC; Sodexo America LLC; and Sodexo Management Inc. were hired to perform janitorial, maintenance and food-related services at the University of Charleston, according to a complaint filed Oct. 27 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

On Nov. 1, 2007, Penny Wyatt, who worked at the University of Charleston in its restaurant, slipped and fell on the floor in a hallway on water that had accumulated because of an air conditioning unit.

Wyatt claims Sodexho was to maintain the air conditioning units and failed to do so.

As a result of the fall, Wyatt claims she sustained extreme physical pain and suffering; extreme mental anguish and suffering; permanent physical impairment; loss of wages and benefits; loss of future earning capacity and benefits; loss of capacity to enjoy life; medical expenses; annoyance and inconvenience; and permanent scarring and disfigurement.

Wyatt is suing for compensatory damages. She is being represented by J. Kristofer Cormany of Cormany Law, PLLC.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib Jr.
