Putnam woman says her Achilles' tendon was sliced at Walmart
WINFIELD – A Putnam County woman says she was injured at Walmart while shopping for back-to-school supplies for her children. Jennifer Bradshaw filed her complaint in Putnam Circuit Court.
Petition to remove Charleston mayor is dismissed
CHARLESTON – A petition to remove Charleston Mayor Danny Jones from office quickly was dismissed Monday. Janet “J.T.” Thompson, who ran against Jones in the municipal election earlier this year, filed the petition just after Jones was sworn in for his fourth term as West Virginia’s largest city.

Charleston woman who had cats seized files multiple lawsuits
CHARLESTON – A woman who had two dozen animals seized from her Charleston home earlier this summer has filed nearly a dozen lawsuits in wake of the incident. Amanda Dawn Woods filed her first lawsuit in June, two weeks after the animals – some of which already were dead – were taken from her West Side home.
AG tells students, parents of potential scholarship scams
CHARLESTON — West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is warning students and their parents to be cautious of potential scams when applying for scholarships. “At this time of year, many high school seniors and their parents are beginning to evaluate colleges and how they will pay for them,” Morrisey said in a statement.
Raleigh Co. man refiles harassment suit against Rose & Quesenberry funeral home
BECKLEY – A Raleigh County man has filed another lawsuit against a funeral home, claiming he was mistreated when he worked there. Brian M. Snuffer filed his second lawsuit against Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Homes Inc. and brothers David Quesenberry and Michael Quesenberry, who are officers of R&Q, on July 30 in Raleigh Circuit Court.

LOGAN—Two Logan County families are suing a construction business on behalf of their minor children on charges stemming from an automobile accident which the plaintiffs say was the defendant’s fault.
Fayetteville woman says she was burned by hot coffee at Subway
FAYETTEVILLE – A Fayetteville woman says she was injured by hot coffee in a convenience store restaurant. Gayle Ballard filed her lawsuit in Fayette Circuit Court against Little General Store Inc., doing business as Subway. Ballard says she was visiting the Subway on Feb. 28, 2014, when she was told by an employee to get her coffee after the coffee machine had stopped brewing.
Teays Valley Walmart opponents take Putnam zoning board to court
WINFIELD – A group of homeowners fighting to keep a Walmart Neighborhood Market from building in Teays Valley have taken their battle to court. David Conley, Jennifer Martone, Tim Hill and Ray Burke filed a petition in Putnam Circuit Court earlier this month requesting the court to review the matter and the actions of the Putnam County Board of Zoning Appeals. CHARLESTON — West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey warns college students to be on guard for scams offering fake employment opportunities. The Federal Bureau of Investigation frequently has warned of email scams circulating around college campuses offering “work from home” opportunities specifically targeted toward college students.
Charleston attorneys' divorce results in property lawsuit with another firm

Woman seeks settlement from W.Va. State R&D Corp.
CHARLESTON – A former West Virginia State University employee is asking the court to enforce a settlement between her and the school over a sexual harassment claim. Crystal Good filed her complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court, saying the May 6 settlement agreement entered between her and WVSU’s Research & Development Corporation hasn’t been paid.
