KINGWOOD -- A former Head Start services teacher is being sued after receiving financial assistance.

North Central Community Action Association Inc. filed a lawsuit March 26 in Preston Circuit Court against Crystal Massey McLaughlin, citing breach of contract.

The complaint states McLaughlin was hired by North Central Community Action Association on Feb. 29, 2009, and June 4, 2010. Before each school year, the defendant agreed to receive financial assistance to pursue a college degree and agreed to teach for the plaintiff for three years after obtaining the degree, according to the complaint.

The plaintiff states McLaughlin resigned from her position before completing her degree and as a result she is contractually obligated to reimburse the plaintiff for the financial assistance provided to her for the degree.

The plaintiff is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.

North Central Community Action Association is being represented by Karen H. Miller and Robert A. Hogue. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Lawrance S. Miller.
