Man sues United Healthcare for breach of contract

Healthcare

BECKLEY – A Raleigh County man is suing United Healthcare Services after he claims it breached its contract with him.

Ryan Snuffer had medical coverage through UHS beginning in 2008, which covered his daughter, H.S.'s medical treatment, according to a complaint filed May 11 in Raleigh Circuit Court and removed to federal court on June 17.

Snuffer claims his daughter has a rare condition and is prescribed treatment and medication that allowed her to thrive.

The treatment was made available in the network provided in Snuffer's medical coverage through UHS.

Snuffer claims the defendant did not honor its contract with him and did not honor its prior approval of the treatments and medications.

UHS breached its contract to provide medical coverage to Snuffer and further breached its agreement to cover the services at the network level in which it purported to Snuffer that it would provide, according to the suit.

Snuffer claims he fully complied with the terms of the insurance policy.

As a result of the defendant's failure to fulfill its obligations provided within the plaintiff's medical coverage and breach of the parties contract, Snuffer has incurred medical bills totaling approximately $43,487.98, according to the suit.

Snuffer is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by Kyle G. Lusk of Lusk & Bradford PLLC.

The case is assigned to District Judge Irene C. Berger.
