CHARLESTON -- A Charleston woman is suing the Kanawha Valley Transit Authority and an unknown man after she claims they are responsible for injuries she sustained on a bus.

On Aug. 21, 2008, Bertha D. Laughlin was a passenger on a vehicle being driven by John Doe and owed by KTA, when Doe lost control of the vehicle, according to a complaint filed Aug. 18 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Laughlin claims when Doe lost control of the vehicle she was thrown violently about the interior of the vehicle and sustained injuries.

As a result of the defendants' negligence, Laughlin sustained temporary and permanent bodily injuries' medical bills and relaxed expenses; physical pain and suffering; loss of enjoyment of life; mental anguish and emotional distress; inability to conduct her normal activities; and a diminished future earning capacity, according to the suit.

Laughlin is seeking compensatory damages. She is being represented by John C. Blair and Kendal E. Partlow.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Charles King.
