Consumer accuses debt collector of illegal practices

RIPLEY — A Jackson County woman is suing an unlicensed debt collector, alleging illegal debt collection practices.

Candy Jo Angel of LeRoy filed a complaint June 15 in Jackson Circuit Court against First Federal Credit Control Inc. alleging violation of the West Virginia Collection Agency Act.

According to the complaint, Angel has suffered undue and unreasonable harassment, abuse, annoyance and inconvenience and was forced to incur attorney fees and costs. The plaintiff alleges the defendant attempted to collect a false debt and failed to comply with the licensure, residence and bond requirements of the West Virginia Collection Agency Act.

Angel seeks trial by jury, damages up to $74.999 exclusive of interest and costs. She is represented by attorneys Troy N. Giatras, Matthew Stonestreet and Philip A. Childs of The Giatras Law Firm in Charleston.
