MORGANTOWN — The mother of a West Virginia University student who was struck by a vehicle who ran a red light is suing the companies who constructed a crosswalk instead of a pedestrian bridge.

The Thrasher Group, which is owned by former gubernatorial candidate Woody Thrasher; Dennis Corporation; A. Morton Thomas & Associates; and Quality Counts were all named as defendants in the suit.

Sara B. Queen was 20 years old and a full-time student at WVU planning to continue onto dental school after she graduated when, on Feb. 20, 2018, she was crossing the street at a pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Evansdale Drive and Monongahela Boulevard when a white pickup truck ran a red light and struck Queen with the passenger-side mirror upon her head.

Loretta Blake, Queen's mother, claims the injuries Queen sustained included massive skull and brain injuries, leaving her now a mentally incompetent adult.

Blake claims the defendants were aware of the need for a pedestrian bridge, yet, instead, recommended a new crosswalk instead, which was negligent.

Blake is seeking compensatory damages. She is represented by Tony L. O'Dell, Cheryl A. Fisher and Max Corley III of Tiano O'Dell of Charleston.
