CHARLESTON – A woman is suing Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley Inc. after she claims she was wrongfully terminated from her employment.
Sandra Show was employed by the defendant from January 2013 until Jan. 15, 2014, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Show claims on Jan. 9, 2014, she sustained a serious injury to her back and on Jan. 13, 2014, she sought medical treatment for the injury she sustained.
Following her treatment, Show provided the defendant with a medical excuse to be off work on Jan. 13, 2014, according to the suit.
Show claims on Jan. 15, 2014, the defendant unlawfully, willfully and maliciously terminated her employment.
The defendant terminated Show while she was on medical leave and knowingly failed to pay all her wages she was owed in full, according to the suit.
Show claims she did not receive her final wages until Jan. 24, 2014.
The defendant violated the West Virginia Human Rights Act and the West Virginia Wage Payment and Collection Act, according to the suit.
Show is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by Valentina G. Wheeler of Wheeler Law Firm PLLC.
The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Louis Bloom.
