Logan couple file lawsuit, allege significant heart damage

Logan

LOGAN - Sheridan Healthcare is being sued by a Stollings couple after allegedly providing inadequate health care.

Debra Kay Marcum and William T. Marcum filed a lawsuit Dec. 17 in the Circuit Court of Logan County against Kamran Khattak MD, Melissa Price CRNA, Sheridan Healthcare of West Virginia Inc., Sheridan Healthcare Inc. and Sheridan Holdings Inc.

The plaintiffs allege on Dec. 15, 2011, Debra was admitted to Logan Regional Medical Center, and the defendants performed a preoperative anesthesia evaluation but failed to obtain a cardiac assessment. The complaint states following surgery, Debra was prematurely extubated, causing injury.

As a result of the defendants' actions, Debra has significant heart damage, according to the complaint.

The plaintiff is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages and a finding that the defendants do not have separate insurance coverage in the amount of at least $1,000,000 and therefore the limitation on non-economic damages is not available. They are being represented by William Tiano and Cheryl Fisher of Tiano O’Dell PLLC.
