CHARLESTON -- An inmate is suing state corrections after he was beaten by other inmates.

James Andrew Jarrell, by his next friend Ida Buchanon, filed a lawsuit Jan. 6 in  Kanawha Circuit Court against West Virginia Division of Corrections.

According to the complaint, Jarrell is currently an inmate in the Huttonsville Correctional Center. He says he was previoiusly incarcerated at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex and at various times received numerous threats against his life by other prisoners.

Jarrell claims he reported the threats to the officials, but no action was taken. The complaint alleges that due to the officials inaction, on Jan. 7, 2012, Jarrell was severely beaten by other inmates at Mount Olive Correctional Complex and sustained permanent injuries.

Jarrell is seeking a judgment in the sum of $100,000, plus costs. He is being represented in the case by attorney Keith White.

Kanawha County Circuit Court Case No. 14-C-15.
