Two women say Lipitor led to type II diabetes

Lipitor

CLARKSBURG --Two women have filed separate federal lawsuits against Pfizer claiming the drug Lipitor led to other health issues.

Sharon Hollandsworth of Cowen filed her suit Jan. 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia, naming Pfizer Inc. as the sole defendant. Mary Parsons filed her suit Jan. 16.

Hollandsworth and Parsons both claim they developed type II diabetes from the drug Lipitor which is sold by Pfizer. They say Lipitor increases the risk of type II diabetes in women and Pfizer knew or should have known this prior to selling Lipitor. Both say their injuries were avoidable and would seeks to hold Pfizer liable.

The plaintiffs claim Pfizer misled the consumers in thinking the drug was safe which amounts to fraud. They are seeking an undisclosed amount in damages. Both are being represented by attorney Thomas G. Wilson.

U.S. District Court for the Northern District of W.Va. Case No. 1:14-CV-1 (Hollandsworth) and Case No. 1:14-CV-11 (Parsons).
