U.Va. doctors group accused of improper collection

BECKLEY -- University of Virginia Physicians Group is being sued by a West Virginia resident after allegedly engaging in improper debt collection methods.


Charles Jones III filed a lawsuit Jan. 17 in Raleigh  Circuit Court against University of Virginia Physicians Group, citing violations of the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act.

The complaint says the plaintiff was contacted by the defendant to collect an outstanding debt. In September 2013, the plaintiff states he informed the defendant he was represented by an attorney, provided the attorney's contact information and told the defendant not to contact him any longer. The defendant continued to call in violation of West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act, according to the complaint.

Jones is seeking statutory damages, costs and fees. The plaintiff is being represented by Anthony Salvatore of Hewitt & Salvatore PLLC.
