Inmate says correction officers beat him

Westernjail

HUNTINGTON -- An inmate is suing various correctional officers claiming he was beaten by them while in custody.

Ryan Stone filed a seven count lawsuit Jan. 15 in Cabell Circuit Court against Correctional Officers Harshbarger, Shaw, Jones, Pridemore, Blake and Stiltner, each individually and in their official capacity, the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority and John Doe.

Stone says while he was incarcerated at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville, he was severely beaten by the defendants at least three times beginning in September and October 2012. He says during that time the defendants began by threatening him before the threats escalated to physical assaults. The plaintiff claims the defendants handcuffed and detained him and then beat him by kicking and striking him, causing him to need medical treatment.

Stone is seeking an undisclosed amount of damages. He is being represented in the case by attorney Kerry A. Nessel.

Cabell Circuit Court Case No. 14-C-57.
