PERSONNEL FILE: Karen Klein joins Moore & Biser

CHARLESTON -- Attorney Karen E. Klein has joined the Charleston law firm of Moore & Biser.

Klein was born in Huntington, and she received a Bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1988 and a Master’s degree in journalism in 1995, both from Marshall University. She worked in newspapers for 12 years at the Charleston Daily Mail, Burlington (Mass.) Union and The Detroit News and as a freelance writer for a national trade industry magazine publisher before leaving journalism to study law.

She earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University School of Law - Bloomington, in 2003.

Klein was admitted to the West Virginia Bar in 2003. She is a member of the Kanawha County Bar Association, the West Virginia State Bar, the American Bar Association, Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, and Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society. She is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in West Virginia and the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Before joining Moore & Biser, Klein practiced law at Schuda & Associates; John R. Fowler PLLC; and Huddleston Bolen Beatty Porter & Copen. She also served as law clerk to the Honorable Douglas R. Bridges of Monroe County, Indiana, while in law school, and was senior managing editor of the Federal Communications Law Journal from 2002 to 2003.

Klein currently serves as vice-chancellor to Rt. Rev. W. Michie Klusmeyer, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia, and on the vestry of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Charleston, and is an assistant province president for Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society.

Klein’s practice areas include canonical law; insurance defense, coverage and bad faith; administrative law; automobile liability (including uninsured and underinsured motorist claims); mining accident litigation; mass torts; municipal defense; workplace injuries; and general civil litigation.
