BECKLEY -- A Beckley attorney has filed a lawsuit after a bad airline experience.
Attorney John D. Wooton filed a lawsuit on behalf of himself Jan. 27 in Raleigh Circuit Court against United Air Lines Inc., citing breach of contract.
The lawsuit states Wooton booked a first-class flight from Charlotte, N.C., to Anchorage, Alaska, for a vacation-fishing trip on Aug. 19. His ticket was modified where the various legs of the trip were changed, making the flights unavailable to first class travel.
The changes meant Wooton was left stranded in Chicago for five hours and which forced an overnight stay once he arrived in Alaska, according to the complaint. Wooton then missed a bush plane to the backcountry for his fishing vacation, according to the complaint.
United didn’t get Wooton’s luggage to the backcountry, which included all of his fishing gear, until the next day, according to the complaint.
Wooton was unavailable for further comment.
Wooton is seeking $1,924.50 in damages, plus court costs. He is representing himself. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge John A. Hutchison.
