CHARLESTON -- Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has encouraged West Virginians to nominate outstanding citizens, families, and organizations for the 2014 Governor's Service Awards, which are coordinated by Volunteer West Virginia.

"West Virginia is known for its proud tradition of neighbor helping neighbor. Every day, West Virginians offer their time and talents to help strengthen our communities. It is important we recognize their efforts," Tomblin said. "I encourage West Virginians to nominate a West Virginian or a group of West Virginians who have gone above and beyond to bring about positive change in their communities and our state.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to honor those who give so much of themselves for the benefit and betterment of others."

Individuals and organizations selected as recipients of the Governor's Service Award will be recognized during a banquet in Charleston at the state volunteerism conference, Faces of Leadership, on July 30.

Nomination forms are available on the Volunteer West Virginia web site, www.volunteerwv.org, or by calling (800) WV-HELPS. Nominations should be postmarked by April 11.
