Woman says she contracted strep in Wheeling Hospital

Wheelinghospital

WHEELING -- An Ohio County woman is suing over claims she contracted strep while in the hospital.

Melissa K. and Drew Beihl filed a lawsuit March 17 in Ohio Circuit Court against Wheeling Hospital Inc. and Chandra S. Swamy M.D., citing professional malpractice.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 19, 2012, Melissa Beihl was admitted to Wheeling Hospital for the birth of the couple's child where Beihl developed an infection of Group A Strep. Beihl says that despite the hospital's knowledge of strep in the facility, Swamy failed to diagnose the infection.

The Beihls are seeking damages within the jurisdictional limits of the court.

They are being represented in the case by attorneys David L. Delk Jr. and Jeffrey A. Grove of Grove & Delk PLLC. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Ronald E. Wilson.
