Cabelas, others accused of harassment

BECKLEY -- A Raleigh County couple is suing a bank, claiming harassment.

Matthew Chapman and Tina Chapman filed a lawsuit March 13 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Cabelas and World's Foremost Bank, citing violations of Consumer Credit and Protection Act and Computer Crime and Abuse Act, as well as negligence, infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy.

The Chapmans claim they received multiple phone calls from the defendants in order to annoy and harass them into paying debts and continued to receive calls even after they hired an attorney to deal with the bank. According to the claim, the defendants tried to collect the debts due in ways which are in direct violation of several laws put into place in the state of West Virginia.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages, attorney's fees, and court costs.

They are being represented by Huntington attorneys Roger Jarrell, Matthew Stapleton and Scott Stapleton of Stapleton Law Offices.
