Ky. woman sues insurer for not paying fire claim

WILLIAMSON -- A Pike County, Ky., woman is suing a home insurance company, claiming it refused to pay her claim after her house was destroyed in a fire.


Helena May filed a lawsuit March 7 in Mingo Circuit Court against Foremost Insurance Company, citing breach of contract, bad faith breach of contract and insurance industry standard violations.

May alleges in the suit her home, at 7559 State Highway 292 West in Belfry, was destroyed in a fire on Oct. 20. According to the claim, the defendant refused to pay her claim to rebuild her home on claims the defendant suspects her of starting the fire.

May is seeking damages, interest and court costs.

She is being represented in the case by attorneys Christopher J. Heavens of Heavens Law Firm PLLC and Greg K. Smith of Law Offices of Greg K. Smith.
