WHEELING -- An Ohio County widow is suing Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital on claims they gave her husband medication that cost him his life.
Nancy Krupinski, as executor of the estate of Robert Krupinski, filed a lawsuit March 31 in Ohio Circuit Court against Guardian Elder Care at Wheeling LLC, doing business as Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital and Geriatric Center, citing professional liability and violations of the West Virginia Nursing Home Act.
Nancy Krupinski claims Robert Krupinski fell at home in April 2013, requiring an operation to repair his hip at Wheeling Hospital. According to the brief, Robert was given a narcotic pain medication, causing a significant degree of respiratory distress. The suit alleges Robert was transferred as a result of the complications to the defendant's facility, stating on his transfer form he should "have no narcotics." Krupinski states Robert was given a powerful narcotic pain medication that resulted in fatal respiratory distress.
Krupinski is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for medical expenses, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, interest and lawyers' costs.
She is being represented in the case by attorney Geoffrey C. Brown of Bordas and Bordas PLLC. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Ronald E. Wilson.
