CHARLESTON -- A woman incarcerated in Southern Regional Jail is suing jail and correctional officers, claiming sexual assault.
Santana Radford filed a lawsuit April 7 in Kanawha Circuit Court against C.O. Dale Hammons, Chief Correctional Officer Lt. Larry Bunting, the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority and unknown persons, citing sexual assault, infliction of emotional distress and negligence.
Radford claims in the suit she was a victim of sexual abuse while incarcerated at the Southern Regional Jail by unknown individuals. The suit alleges she informed the officers of the incidents, but they failed to protect her from the abuse and failed to punish the offenders.
Radford is seeking damages to fully compensate her for all losses, attorneys fees and court costs. She is being represented in the case by attorney Michael A. Woelfel. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
