Medical worker says she was wrongly fired

WINFIELD -- A medical services worker is suing her employer after they terminated her when she had a knee injury.

Cheryle Wilson filed a lawsuit April 7 in Putnam Circuit Court against Primecare Medical of West Virginia Inc. and supervisor Rebecca Davis, citing disability discrimination in violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act, violation of West Virginia public policy allowing for reasonable times of unpaid leave and age discrimination.

The lawsuit states Wilson was hired by Primecare in October 2006 as a health services administrator. She was promoted, then demoted, then promoted throughout her career and took a leave of absence in November 2012 to receive medical treatment for her knee, the complaint states.

She gave her employer information relating to her request for additional leave, but was terminated. Wilson asked to return to work after she received a doctor’s release, but Primecare has not responded to her request.

Wilson is suing for damages that include back pay and money to compensate for lost benefits, compensatory damages, punitive damages, reinstatement of front pay and court costs.

She is being represented by Stephen B. Farmer of Farmer, Cline & Campbell P.L.L.C. The case has been assigned to Circuit Court Judge Joseph Reeder.
