FAYETTEVILLE -- A Fayette County couple is suing over claims the wife sustained serious injuries after slipping and falling at a medical center.

Beverly Ellis and Michael Ellis filed a lawsuit May 16 in Fayette Circuit Court against Plateau Medical Center, citing negligence, loss of companionship and consumer protection.

The plaintiffs claim Beverly sustained injuries while she was at the defendant's facility in Oak Hill on Sept. 24, 2012. The suit alleges there were ketchup packets on the floor in the hallway that Beverly slipped on, injuring her knee, hip and back.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages for past and future medical expenses, punitive damages, interest, attorneys fees and court costs.

They are being represented in the case by Beckley attorney Anthony J. Sparacino Jr. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul M. Blake Jr.
