Woman accuses Service Wire of discrimination

Discrimination

HUNTINGTON -- A woman is suing her former employer after they terminated her employment, claiming discrimination.

Michelle Wright filed a lawsuit May 22 in Cabell Circuit Court against Service Wire Company, citing disability discrimination, age discrimination, termination in violation of substantial public policy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Wright claims she began working for the defendant as a Human Resources Assistant on Aug. 29, 2011. The suit alleges Wright's husband lost his job and medical insurance coverage and after approaching Service Wire for medical coverage she was informed she wasn't eligible. Wright states she suffered two seizures while on the job May 17, 2012, and June 26, 2012.

According to the brief, Wright tried to gain medical insurance coverage from Service Wire Company and was denied a second time because she didn't apply within 30 days of her husband losing coverage.

The suit alleges the defendant required Wright to get another medical release, which she was willing to do if the the defendant paid for the exam. The defendant refused to pay and terminated her employment.

Wright is seeking damages, attorney's fees, interest and court costs. She is being represented by Huntington attorney Abraham J. Saad of Saad Law Office. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Christopher D. Chiles.

Cabell Circuit Court case number 14-C-408.
