PERSONNEL FILE: Five Bordas & Bordas attorneys named Super Lawyers

WHEELING – Five Bordas & Bordas attorneys have been selected to the 2014 West Virginia Super Lawyers list.


Each year, no more than 5 percent of the lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor. Bordas & Bordas attorneys Jim Bordas, Jamie Bordas, Scott Blass, Geoff Brown, and Christopher Regan were selected as 2014 West Virginia Super Lawyers along with attorney Jeremy McGraw being selected as a 2014 West Virginia Rising Star.


Jim Bordas, one of the founding partners of Bordas & Bordas, has been a West Virginia Super Lawyer for the past eight years. Bordas was also recognized at one of the Top 10 2014 West Virginia Super Lawyers. He has obtained numerous multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements for his injured clients in such diverse fields as medical negligence, toxic tort, leader liability, products liability, insurance bad faith, and auto and truck cases. He was plaintiffs' counsel in the $50 million verdict in Meredith v. Heartland of Clarksburg Nursing Home. He has been named the West Virginia Association for Justice's Member of the Year. Jim has repeatedly been named to West Virginia Super Lawyers and West Virginia's Top Lawyers. He has been a guest lecturer at numerous seminars. Jim and his cases have also been featured on national television including 60 Minutes, Inside Edition, and CNN.


Jamie Bordas, managing partner of Bordas & Bordas, was selected as a 2014 West Virginia Super Lawyer. He has tried numerous cases and obtained record results including a $10 million verdict in an insurance bad faith case. He has also negotiated major settlements in complex litigation, including settlements for $36.5 million and $18.5 million. He is frequently called upon to lecture to other lawyers in a wide variety of areas of litigation including insurance bad faith, discovery, trial strategy, and negotiation strategies. Bordas also serves as the lead negotiator for many of the firm's complex cases. He is on the Board of Governors of the West Virginia Association for Justice. He has been selected for inclusion by the National Trial Lawyers as a member of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers since 2008. Bordas graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame and The Notre Dame Law School. He hosts a weekly legal television show on WLU-TV 14.


Scott Blass, a partner at Bordas & Bordas, has been a West Virginia Super Lawyer for the past four years. He is a 1984 magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of West Virginia University and a 1987 graduate of  the West Virginia University College of Law. Blass has handled hundreds of cases on behalf of individuals who suffered catastrophic injuries and damages, including individuals exposed to toxic chemicals, victimized by medical malpractice, severely injured in truck and automobile collisions, injured by defective products, and victimized by bad faith insurance practices. Blass has served as lead trial counsel in more than three dozen jury trials. He is a member of the West Virginia and Ohio State Bars. He is a past President of the West Virginia Association for Justice and has previously been honored as its Member of the Year.


Christopher Regan, a partner at Bordas & Bordas, has been selected as a West Virginia Super Lawyer for the past three years. Regan focuses on complex civil litigation on behalf of mainly plaintiffs in West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In just over ten years, Regan has obtained more than $80 million in civil jury verdicts across those three states including punitive damage verdicts against hospital corporations, utility companies, and nursing home corporations. His practice has also been marked by favorable judicial decisions, including some involving case-ending default sanctions against corporate defendants and a variety of reported appellate decisions. Regan graduated from the Notre Dame Law School and is a former national debate champion.


Geoffrey Brown, a partner at Bordas & Bordas, has been a West Virginia Super Lawyer for the past two years. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1994. Upon returning from his military service, Brown attended law school at the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated magna cum laude in 2000. At Bordas & Bordas, Brown concentrates his work on the firm's complex litigation and medical malpractice cases. He has also successfully represented individuals harmed by the negligence of stockbrokers and individuals harmed by the misconduct of energy companies, including those harmed by electric distribution companies and natural gas providers.  He has obtained multi-million dollar verdicts in West Virginia and Ohio.


Jeremy McGraw, an associate at Bordas & Bordas, was selected as a 2014 West Virginia Rising Star. McGraw concentrates his practice on handling cases involving oil and gas rights and litigation. He has represented land owners regarding leasing issues, nuisance claims, property damage, and royalty payments.  Jeremy gained a strong familiarity with handling civil litigation while he was employed by the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia as a clerk assigned to work for Judge John S. Hrko. McGraw attended the West Virginia University College of Law. During his time at WVU he received the Henry D. Collins Scholarship. He graduated from the College of law in 2006.
