WINFIELD –  A Putnam County man is suing, alleging he was injured during physical therapy at a hospital.

Paul M. and Lorinda A. Thompson filed a lawsuit June 25 in Putnam Circuit Court against CAMC Teays Valley Hospital Inc. and CAMC Health Systems Inc.

According to the complaint, Paul Thompson began physical therapy treatment at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital on May 15, 2013, for strengthening after a period of recuperation from a foot surgery. Thompson says on his first day of physical therapy, he was placed on an upper body strengthening machine and left to attempt it without proper instruction or supervision, despite wearing a large orthopedic boot. The complaint says the machine caused him to trip, injuring his arm and shoulder as well as causing nerve palsy. The defendants are accused of negligence and medical malpractice.

The Thompsons are represented by attorney Mark E. Troy of Troy Law Firm PLLC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Phillip Stowers.
