PERSONNEL FILE: Oko-ogua named to Lawyers of Color hot list

CHARLESTON – Bailey & Wyant PLLC is pleased to announce that Suleiman Oko-ogua has been named to Lawyers of Color’s Second Annual Hot List. The list recognizes early- to mid-career attorneys excelling in the legal profession.

Oko-ogua was honored at a receptions for the Mid-Atlantic Region along with 99 other honorees July 22 at Foley & Lardner’s Washington office, according to the Lawyers of Color website.

The honorees all work as in-house counsel, government attorneys, law firm associates or partners. The Lawyers of Color accepted nominations from mentors, peers and colleagues. The selection committee reviewed each nomination and researched legal publications in order to find the most suitable honorees.

They also made editorial picks based on the candidates with noteworthy accomplishments, especially those who work with legal pipeline initiatives, according to the website.

“I am extremely pleased to be recognized by the Lawyers of Color,” Oko-ogua said.

Oko-ogua is an Associate in Bailey & Wyant's Charleston office. Originally from Nigeria, West Africa, Oko-ogua moved to the United States in 1997 to attend college. He graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2004. Prior to joining Bailey & Wyant, Oko-ogua was a prosecutor and private attorney for about three years. He also clerked for a Kentucky State Judge.

Along with other honorees, Oko-ogua will be profiled in Lawyers of Color’s Hot List 2014 Issue.
