Mattress flips, woman sues motel

Sleepinnbeaver

BECKLEY – A Virginia woman is suing over claims she was injured when a mattress in a hotel flipped.

Edna M. Todd filed an amended lawsuit Aug. 7 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Laurel Lodge Enterprises Inc., doing business as Sleep Inn Beaver, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Todd checked in to the Sleep Inn on Airport Road in Beaver with her family on July 27, 2012. The complaint states Todd sat down on the mattress and it flipped up, causing her to fall to the floor and sustain injuries that incurred medical expenses of more than $70,000.

The defendant is accused of negligence in using bed rails too short for the mattress, making it a safety risk.

Todd is being represented in the case by attorney Charles A. Stacy from Bluefield and Tracy Ann Houck of Parrish, Houck & Sneak PLC in Fredericksburg, Va. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick.
