CHARLESTON – The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia will premiere “Marble Monday” on its Twitter handle – @WVcourts – at 7 a.m. and noon on Monday, Oct. 6.
Students and anyone interested in court trivia are encouraged to answer the weekly questions. The first correct tweets will be acknowledged Tuesday morning.
“As a child, I loved learning about our state’s rich history and was honored to be a Golden Horseshoe Award recipient. Civics education creates competent citizens,” Chief Justice Robin Jean Davis said in a statement. “Today’s students are fortunate to have myriad ways to learn about the branches of government, including online social media and interactive games like iCivics. The Court is offering one more learning opportunity with Marble Monday.”
Marble Monday is the latest Supreme Court civics project. The others include West Virginia Law Adventure, a mock-trial and script-writing contest for fifth- to 12th-grade classes; Robes to Schools, for which judges and magistrates read to students or give speeches at local schools; LAWS (Legal Advancement for West Virginia Students), a once-a-year event in which the Supreme Court travels to a county courthouse and hears appeals before a student audience; and Justice Files coloring books and graphic novels for fifth- and 12th-grade classes, respectively.
