PERSONNEL FILE: Spilman elects new members

CHARLESTON – The law firm Spilman Thomas & Battle has announced that attorneys Erin Jones Adams, R. Scott Adams, Travis H. Eckley, Travis A. Knobbe and Glen A. Murphy have been elected as partners effective Jan. 1.

Erin Jones Adams, of the firm’s Winston-Salem office, focuses on general civil litigation with a special emphasis on employment law and e-discovery law. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute and the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce. She earned her undergraduate degree from Salem College and her law degree from West Virginia University.

Scott Adams, also of Spilman’s Winston-Salem office, works primarily in consumer financial services law. His practice also covers banking and finance law, bankruptcy law and creditors’ rights law. He publishes a blog titled “Banking on This: Spilman Mortgage & Consumer Banking Report.”  Adams earned his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Colgate University and his law degree from WVU.

Eckley’s focus is real estate law, including mineral, commercial and residential real estate. Based in the firm’s Charleston office, he helped form and is a leader of Spilman’s mineral title services group. He earned his undergraduate degree from Rhodes College and his law degree from WVU. Following law school, he earned his Masters of Law degree in real estate law.

Knobbe’s primary areas of practice include commercial litigation, construction law, creditors’ rights, bankruptcy and appellate litigation. From Spilman’s Roanoke office, he serves as an editor of “The Construct,” the firm’s quarterly construction law e-newsletter. He earned his undergraduate degree from Bethany College and his law degree from WVU.

Murphy, based in the firm’s Charleston office, focuses on litigation, insurance coverage, and insurance coverage and bad faith law. He is a member of the West Virginia Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute and the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi and his law degree from Samford University.
