CHARLESTON – A Fayette County woman is suing over claims she was fired for requesting maternity leave.

Laura Beth Ford filed a lawsuit Nov. 19, 2014, in Kanawha Circuit Court against Employee Resource Group, doing business as Applebee's, and Joseph Sereno, citing wrongful discharge.

According to the complaint, Ford was working as general manager of the defendant's Applebee's on Merchant's Walk in Summersville in October 2014, when she requested maternity leave in December from Sereno and other supervisors. The complaint states Sereno began complaining Ford could only work on her feet nine hours a day and fired her Oct. 15, 2014.

Ford is represented by attorneys C. Benjamin Salango and Kristina Salango of Preston & Salango in Charleston.
