Woman says ambulance company ruined her credit

Jancareambulance

BECKLEY – A disabled woman is suing Jan-Case Ambulance alleging bogus bills tarnished her credit, cost her a home loan and caused her distress.

Kathy L. Wise filed a lawsuit Jan. 15 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Jan-Care Ambulance Service Inc.

According to the complaint, Jan-Care was Wise's mode of transport to doctor’s appointments around town because Wise has Guillian-Barre syndrome, which causes paralysis in the legs, so she cannot drive herself.

According to the suit, in 2011 and 2012 Wise’s ambulance bills were paid by Medicaid. But the ambulance company kept billing her for more charges and sent collection agencies after her as well, the lawsuit states.

Wise alleges these bills were characterized as bad debt and cost her a home loan and a personal loan.

Wise seeks damages for annoyance, aggravation and anxiety from the situation, as well as attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Ralph C. Young of Hamilton, Burgess, Young & Pollard in Fayetteville.
