Nurse says she was wrongfully fired for looking at son's records

WHEELING – A nurse who was fired after 37 years for allegedly looking up her son’s medical records is suing for wrongful termination.

Janet Schultz filed the lawsuit Dec. 8, 2014, in Ohio Circuit Court against Wheeling Hospital Inc., her employer since the 1970s.

According to the complaint, in 2013 Schultz returned to work after taking time to care for ailing family members, including her son, who had been involved in a car wreck. Schultz was fired after she looked up some records on her son’s case, the suit states.

Schultz seeks damages as well as attorneys fees. She is represented by attorney Nicholas A. Wininsky of Wininsky Law Offices in Pittsburgh.
