Doctors accused of malpractice in pneumonia death

Raleighgeneral

BECKLEY – The estate administrator of a Raleigh County woman is suing two doctors and a hospital alleging they are responsible for the death of a patient by discharging her with a life-threatening case of pneumonia.

Andrea Riley filed the lawsuit Jan. 16 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Dr. Prasad Polisetty, Dr. Maria Boustani, family nurse practitioner Jill Blake, and Raleigh General Hospital, alleging malpractice.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 23, 2012, Jeanette Haines was released from Raleigh General despite being in respiratory distress. Haines died the next day, the lawsuit states.

The doctors were wrong to release Haines because her white blood cell count was low and she was wheezing, the suit states.

Riley seeks damages for mental anguish, loss of companionship, medical care and funeral costs. She is represented by attorney C. Benjamin Salango of Preston & Salango in Charleston.

Raleigh Circuit Court case number: 15-C-29B
