Nursing home accused of negligence

Nursinghome

BECKLEY – The son of a nursing home resident has sued the home and its employees for alleged negligence after his father died from infections.

William Cook, as personal representative for the estate of Glen Cook, filed the lawsuit Jan. 14 in Raleigh Circuit Court against 1631 Ritter Drive Operations, doing business as Raleigh Center, and Genesis Healthcare.

According to the complaint, in 2012 the staff of Raleigh Center failed to turn Glen Cook or examine his catheter, in which he had developed an infection. The infection went untreated and led to sepsis, a fatal condition, the lawsuit states. The staff also failed to inform Glen Cook’s family of his medical condition and kept him in unhygienic conditions, which amounted to abuse, according to the lawsuit. Glen Cook died Aug. 31, 2013.

Cook seeks all damages allowable for the death as well as attorney fees. He is represented by attorney Andrew L. Paternostro of The Bell Law Firm in Charleston.
