KINGWOOD — A Preston County woman filed suit against a lumber company alleging unlawful removal of property in 2014.
Vickey Evans Lewis of Bruceton Mills filed a lawsuit against Sisler Lumber Co. on Feb. 20 in Preston Circuit Court, claiming breach of contract in a 2014 property disagreement.
Lewis and her husband, Paul Lewis, have been part-owners of a tract of land in Pleasant District since 1985. They are documented as joint tenants by deeds recorded in the Preston County Clerk’s office. From April until July of 2014, Paul entered into a verbal agreement with the defendant regarding the harvest and sale of timber located on his land and was paid $36,987 directly by Sisler.
According to court documents, Vickey Lewis was not involved in the sale and never authorized her husband to conduct it. She alleges that Sisler’s removal of timber was in violation of state law, and that she is therefore allegedly entitled to triple damages.
Mrs. Lewis seeks property damages in the amount of $110,961, for the wrongful removal of the wood, plus attorneys’ fees and costs.
She is represented in the case by J. Douglas Crane of Morgantown. The case has been assigned to Judge Lawrence S. Miller.
