WHEELING — An Ohio County man has sued his former employer, alleging employment law violation.
Andre Paige of Wheeling filed a lawsuit Feb. 18 in Ohio Circuit Court against Keystone Clearwater Solutions, alleging noncompliance with civil rights legislation, negligence and related issues.
According to the complaint, Keystone hired the plaintiff in January 2014 and Paige, an African-American, was subjected to racial epithets and a hostile work environment based on behaviors attributed to other crew members, employees and supervisors. When Paige requested reassignment, the site manager removed him from the schedule instead, the suit states, and Paige was terminated in August 2014 without apparent cause.
Paige alleges Keystone took no remedial action, and he cites civil rights violations as well as unemployment law infringement. The suit says racial comments and slurs were made by four Keystone supervisors and four employees, and Keystone was complicit in its acquiescence to its staff’s behavior.
The plaintiff cites wrongful termination, negligence, harassment and retaliation resulting in distress and medical expenses.
Paige seeks damages and punitive compensation for lost wages, benefits and earning capacity, plus attorney fees, expenses and costs.
He is represented by attorneys Ronald Zavolta and Jordan Laird of Zavolta Law Office in Wheeling. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Martin J. Gaughan.
