Insurer questions car dealer's repairs

FAYETTEVILLE – A national insurance company filed a lawsuit against a Fayette County car dealership over a 2014 accident in Oak Hill.

Nationwide Insurance Co. of America brought a complaint last month against Crossroads Chevrolet LLC of Mount Hope in Fayette Circuit Court.

Nationwide had provided an insurance policy to Daryl and Stefan Skaggs. According to court documents, the couple had taken their 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt to the defendant for mechanical work regarding a recall for a steering mechanism flaw.

The suit states that on or about Nov. 15, 2014, the steering wheel of their vehicle locked while traveling, causing it to strike a guardrail in Oak Hill. At the time, the car was being driven by Savanna Skaggs.

The plaintiff paid the insured $8,489.67 for vehicular damages; tried unsuccessfully to collect from the defendant, according to the complaint; and now seeks compensatory damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorneys’ fees and costs.

The plaintiff has directed interrogatory paperwork to the defendant in order to discover details about the repair work, such as the auto dealer’s hiring policies, employee information, license and permit data, and any other pertinent records.
