Woman blames Cross Lanes Group Home for sister's death

Nursinghome

CHARLESTON – A woman is suing Cross Lanes Group Home for her sister's death.

RSCR West Virginia is doing business as Cross Lanes Group Home.

Voca Corporation of West Virginia Inc.; Res-care Inc.; Southern Home Care Services Inc.; and Jeff Shrewsbury were also named as defendants in the suit.

Reba Pettry was a resident of the defendants from Feb. 18, 2004, until March 20, 2013, according to a complaint filed March 3 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Sandra Murray claims the defendants had a statutorily mandated duty to provide Pettry with her consumer rights, as set forth in West Virginia code.

During her residency, Pettry suffered serious injuries from a pattern of poor care, neglect and abuse rendered by Cross Lanes Group Home and its staff, according to the suit.

Murray claims the negligence and abuse her sister suffered caused the significant destruction of her physical and mental condition during her residency.

The defendants are also responsible for Pettry's wrongful death, according to the suit.

Murray is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Andrew L. Paternostro and Jeff D. Stewart of the Bell Law Firm.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Louis Bloom.
