Va. woman cites hospital owners over trip-and-fall

Bluefieldregional

PRINCETON – A Virginia woman has sued a hospital, alleging injuries she suffered in a fall.

Judith S. Lundy, of Bastian, Va., filed a lawsuit April 8 in Mercer Circuit Court against Bluefield Hospital Co., doing business as Bluefield Regional Medical Center, and Community Health Systems Professional Services Corp.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 14, 2014, Lundy was visiting Bluefield Regional Medical Center when she was "caused to trip and fall by a piece of metal sticking out from the pavement of the parking lot on the north side" of the hospital. The suit says she suffered severe injuries, including a contusion to her right ribs and an injury to her right rotator cuff.

The defendants, the suit says, were negligent in not keeping its property in a safe condition, not warning the plaintiff of a hazard and not fixing the unsafe condition.

The plaintiff cites extensive medical treatment and expenses, as well as "loss of earnings, pain, suffering, mental anguish, annoyance and inconvenience."

Lundy seeks unspecified damages deemed appropriate by the court. She is represented by attorney Lawrence E. Morhous of Brewster, Morhous, Cameron, Caruth, Moore, Kersey & Stafford in Bluefield.
