East Point Apostolic Church
CHARLESTON – An 84-year-old Charleston woman has sued her church after she fell on a step, claiming she has sustained permanent injuries.
Marie K. White, who lives just down the street from East Point Apostolic Church, was attending church on Nov. 22, 2003, when she fell down a concrete step about 10 inches in height, according to a lawsuit filed last week in Kanawha Circuit Court.
After the fall, White was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Hospital where she underwent immediate surgery.
As a result of the fall, White claims she has permanent injuries and requires long-term medical treatment. She also says she still suffers pain, an inability to walk, depression, constant pain in her hip radiating down her leg and a “pins and needles” feeling in her leg.
In the suit filed by Jeffrey G. Blaydes of Donnelly, Carbone & Blaydes, White says she has suffered permanent disfigurement and will continue to suffer pain, inconvenience, embarrassment and mental anguish.
Also, White says she has had major expenses to pay medical bills, buy medical supplies, medicines, attendant services and rehabilitation services. She says her general health, strength and vitality have been impaired and that she can’t enjoy the ordinary pleasures of life and can’t perform the daily habits of living.
In the suit, White seeks a jury trial to determine judgment.
