MORGANTOWN - A Monongalia County couple claims a contractor was unable to finish his work in the agreed upon time and destroyed the rest of their house in the process.
Edward and Gloria Hargro claim Contracting Solutions, L.L.C., and Randy Michael, the owner, promised to finish construction in two weeks, but were not just unable to keep that promise, but also seriously damaged their home.
In the suit filed on Dec. 19, the Hargros stated that they hired Contracting Solutions and Michael for the installation of a blacktop driveway with flared inlets, the removal of a rear wall, the replacement of a locking block, the enlargement of a bedroom closet, and the installation of drywall framing for the closet. Michael inspected the areas of interest at the Hargros' home and quoted a cost of $10, 060 to the Hargros for the entire job.
According to the suit, on Sept. 14, Michael wrote and signed a contract that declared the jobs would be completed within two weeks.
However, as of Dec. 16, the job was not just "grossly incomplete," but parts of the house were destroyed and made uninhabitable by the defendants. The Hargros have also alleged that they paid a 50 percent deposit of $5,030.00 to Contracting Solutions for the job.
The Hargros allege that their house was seriously damaged, they were blatantly deceived by the defendants, and that the defendants, particularly Michael, used fraudulent practices to gain their trust.
The Hargros now are seeking damages in the form of their deposit, but also the costs to repair the rest of their house. The house repairs include removal of the chimney, replacement of the kitchen ceramic tile, replacement of the bathroom linoleum, roof repair, replacement of kitchen cabinetry, repair of the driveway and much more. They are also seeking court costs.
