Cabell woman says friend was injured in school bus accident

HUNTINGTON -- A Cabell County woman claims her friend was injured when a car struck the school bus she was riding.

In a petition filed Dec. 27, Lola Ray alleges her 16-year-old friend Meaghan Lucas was seriously injured following an accident with Christopher Carter and Jessica McCallister.

The petition claims that on Nov. 23, 2004, Lucas was riding the bus on U.S. 60 near Ona. McCallister drove her automobile into the rear end of Carter's, causing his vehicle to collide with the school bus. Upon impact, Lucas' body was thrown into the side of the bus, seriously injuring her neck and back.

Ray's attorney, Kenneth P. Hicks, negotiated a settlement with McCallister in the amount of $18,500. Hicks is seeking approval and confirmation of the settlement from Judge David M. Pancake.
