Pittsburgh man files asbestos suit

CHARLESTON - A Pittsburgh couple has named 99 defendants in an asbestos lawsuit.

Patrick and Marian Byrne filed the suit May 2 in Kanawha Circuit Court through Pittsburgh attorney David P. Chervenick of the law firm Goldberg, Persky and White.

Patrick Byrne, a 74-year-old former insulator with Asbestos Workers Local No. 2, says he has mesothelioma, a lung disease caused by the inhalation of asbestos fibers.

Marian is suing for loss of consortium.

Of the 99 defendants, the following are companies based in West Virginia: Aristech Chemical Corporation, Columbia Paint Corp., Cooper Industries, Famous Furnace and Supply Co., Flowserve US, Inc., Harnischfeger Corp., Honeywell International, Monongahela Power Company, Nitro Industrial Coverings, National Services Industries, UB West Virginia, Inc., Vimasco Corp. and Wheeling Rubber Products.

The Byrnes filed 13 charges against the defendants.

A visiting judge will be assigned the case.
